It isn't easy to add a stroke to layers in After Effects like it is in Photoshop. The native Generate > Stroke effect requires a mask but that doesn't work for layers with alpha like precomps or an imported SWF.
You can add Stroke layer style but you need to twirl down a million properties and, once you're there, the controls aren't very intuitive.
What is Stroke?
A pseudo-effect preset for After Effects, makes it easy to manage your Stroke layer style.
